Torrential thunderstorms central Europe Friday & weekend


Friday
A hot day across southern Europe, with temperatures widely approaching 30C around the Mediterranean, whilst in southern Spain & Portugal it may top 35C. Warm weather extends across much of central Europe, with highs of 25C in the Low Countries and Germany. However, thunderstorms will break out increasingly across northern & eastern France, Belgium, western Germany and the Alps. Thundery too for the central Balkans and Bulgaria. Scattered showers for Italy, but much of the country stays dry. Hot sunshine for Greece, also Ukraine and Romania. High pressure brings dry westher to northern Germany, Denmark, Poland and areas around the Baltic, highs 17 to 22C. Rain for south-western Norway. A cool northerly breeze for Finland & the Baltic states. Showers toward western Russia.


Saturday
Slack pressure across the continent maintains a very warm but thundery pattern. Staying hot and dry for southern Spain and Portugal, 30 to 35C. Hot and sunny across the Mediterranean, including much of Italy and Greece . Thunderstorms breaking out widely across large swathes of the continent, extending from northern Spain to southern & central France, the Alps and Balkans, also Bulgaria and southern Romania. Thunderstorms too for Germany, perhaps the BeNeLux region. Northern France should escape largely dry. High pressure resides over eastern Europe, bringing fair weather to countries including Poland, Hungary and Ukraine. Weak fronts bring patchy rain to southern Scandinavia, some heavy showers. Dry and cool for northern Scandinavia.
