Bitter easterly winds

Good morning,

High pressure centred over Scandinavia promotes biting cold easterly winds across the British Isles today. Gale or near-gale force around many coasts, although not as strong for much of Scotland.

A cold front pushes south-westwards over England into the English Channel. Snow showers or flurries affect many areas, locally organised into bands for eastern England.

In most places, snowfall amounts will be small, barely a dusting, but locally where snow becomes frequent, there is a risk of 10cm or more heading into Saturday evening. Central-northern England, plus the far south-east are most prone to clusters of snow showers coming in from the east. Widespread icy roads.

Today's top temperatures will struggle to do better than 1 to 3C, perhaps 5C around south-western coasts.

Have a great day.
