Staying unsettled, more wind and rain with a risk of severe gales Saturday

Unsettled weather is going to be dominating through the coming week. Low pressure areas bring rain, some of it heavy especially on windward facing hills and coasts. The risk fo some severe gales on Saturday. Next week is likely to be staying wet and breezy, especially in the west and north. Temperatures are expected to be mild overall.

Friday 20/10/17
A batch of heavy rain and strong winds is likely to advance north into Scotland, and may produce prolonged rain for the eastern Highlands. A brief lull follows, with dry conditions for a few hours for central & southern Britain, some sunshine. Then another developing low pressure area moves in from the south-west. A risk of stormy conditions and heavy rain arriving later. Highs 10 to 16C.

Saturday 21/10/17
A deep area of low pressure passing east on Saturday. Whilst detail remains difficult it is likely that rain, showers and severe gales will be widespread. Winds may be strong enough to cause damage. Highs at 10 to 16C.

 
 
 

Sunday 22/10/17
Low pressure east and west of the UK on Sunday. There will be a mix of sunshine and showers although these should fade ahead of more rain arriving in the west. Highs at 12 to 15C.

 
 
 

Monday 23/10/17
A broad, most southwesterly flow on Monday. Confidence is low in the detail but there is likely to be some heavy rain in more western areas. A mild day at 17C in the south, 12C in the north.

Tuesday 24/10/17
Low pressure stays to the west on Tuesday. The southwest flow persists bringing cloud and periods of rain, heavy in thew west. Perhaps drier to the south and east. Highs at 13 to 18C.

Wednesday 25/10/17
Low pressure continues to dominate. This brings sunshine and showers, but there could still be some longer spells of rain in the east and south. Perhaps fresher in Scotland and Northern Ireland as well as northern England. Highs at 11 to 17C.
