Week ahead - August 08, 2017
Better than recently
Occasional patchy rain

Issued: 1000hrs Tuesday 8th August 2017
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Warmer, humid at times

A brief ridge of high pressure on Thursday is quickly replaced by a strengthening westerly flow on Friday, bringing some rain. Pressure builds again over the weekend, and southern Britain may then see a run of drier and warmer days heading into next week. However, further fronts moving in from the Atlantic bring a risk of rain at times for the west & north.

Friday 11/08/17
Fronts move across the country from the Atlantic. Cloudy skies for most places, with outbreaks of rain, most persistent toward the north & west, with patchy rain spreading across the Midlands. Very little reaching the south-east, where some hazy sun is possible. Turning showery behind the rain for Scotland & Northern Ireland. A fresh south-westerly breeze. Quite humid, highs 15 to 18C north & west, 20 to 23C south.

Saturday 12/08/17
Fronts passing eastwards bring cloud and patchy rain to England & Wales, most persistent over hills in the west, but amounts small in the east & south. Showers for western Scotland, drier toward the east. Pressure is likely to rebuild from the west, with skies brightening for Ireland. A westerly breeze tending to ease. Highs 17 to 23C, warmest far south, and staying fairly humid.

Sunday 13/08/17
High pressure is expected to build across the country, resulting in a dry and bright day for most places. A few residual showers possible, mainly toward the north-west, but plenty of sunshine for central, southern & eastern areas. Fair-weather cloud filling in during the day. Winds fairly light, coastal sea breezes. Highs 17 to 19C north & west, 21 to 24C Midlands, south & east.

Monday 14/08/17
Confidence of detail is low, but pressure is likely to remain high toward the south-east. Many places dry, but fronts moving back in from the Atlantic may bring rain to Ireland, plus western parts of Britain. Highs 17 to 24C.

Tuesday 15/08/17
A chance that fronts may pass east to bring a spell of rain, mainly across northern areas. Very little may reach central and southern Britain. HIghs 16 to 23C.

Wednesday 16/08/17
Pressure is likely to rebuild, bringing fair weather to the south & east, but a risk of further fronts approaching from the west. Warmer, highs 18 to 25C.
