Gales, freezing wind chill, snow showers, frost and ice developing

Milder weather conditions are expected into Wednesday for much of Britain. As the jet stream heads south, very cold Arctic air sweeps southward during Thursday and a few very cold day will follow. Temperatures fall to well below normal and strong north west winds will produce a significant wind chill below freezing. Snow showers to affect western and eastern areas Widespread and sharp frosts develop later when the winds fall light.

Wednesday 06/12/17
Expect a milder, windy day with plenty of cloud. Showers and some light rain affects the west in the morning. Rain extends into most areas in the afternoon. Very wet and windy with moderate to heavy rain in the evening across Britain. This lingers across England and Wales overnight as it turns colder across Scotland with a few wintry showers. Gales to affect Britain with gusts to 60-65 mph in the north. Expect highs of 8 to 12C.


Thursday 07/12/17
Colder air will push south on gale force north west winds. Rain soon sweeps away from England leaving showers in the north and west, these wintry over the northern hills and the Welsh hills. It continues breezy overnight with a risk of snow some icy patches. Expect highs of 4 to 8C.
 


Friday 08/12/17
Very cold with a significant wind chill. Snow showers to affect western and eastern areas with local accumulations possible. Dry and sunny inland. We expect temperatures to be well below normal. Snow showers to affect west areas overnight and it will be quite cold with icy patches. Look for highs of 1 to 3C.
 


Saturday 09/12/17
Another cold, breezy day with temperatures remaining below normal and we keep a significant wind chill. Lots of dry sunny weather inland while eastern and western areas have again have the risk of occasional snow showers. A very cold night to come with a widespread and sharp frost. Expect highs of 3 to 5C.
 


Sunday 10/12/17
It stays wintry and cold. Much of Britain looks dry with long spells of crisp wintry sunshine. A few dense patches of freezing fog may be slow to clear central areas. A few snow showers to affect North Sea coasts. Another widespread frost to come overnight. Expect highs of 1 to 3C.

Monday 11/12/17
Cold and breezy. Lots of sunshine to come across inland areas of Britain while wintry showers affect western and eastern coasts. Look for highs of 1 to 4C.
